Café Mozart, the much-acclaimed Viennese-style café on the upper west side in Manhattan,
is holding a contest in search of the Next Child Prodigy Classical Music Talent.
This contest marks Café Mozart’s first Annual $10,000 Classical Music Scholarship.
"We are looking forward to having you share with us in the excitement of finding
a young up and coming musical talent. We are asking," says Amir Benesh, owner of
this upper west side European haven, "New York City tri-state residents to send
to us the most talented children they know"!
The contest is open to youth, under the age of 18 years in the New York City tri-state
area, who presently are attending a public school. Youth who are already enrolled
and studying in a music program at a private school are not eligible. All interested
youth must submit an application accompanied by an essay to Café Mozart no later
than March 10, 2006.
Café Mozart will select 108 contestants from the application and essay submissions
and these contestants will be notified on March 20, 2006. There are nine
Preliminary Competition nights during 2006 at Café Mozart scheduled on the last
Wednesday night of each month namely: March 29th, April 26th, May 31st, June 28th,
July 26th, August 30th, September 27th, October 25th, and November 29th.
Each of these 108 contestants is required to perform a five-minute instrumental
piece composed by Mozart, on an instrument of their choice - piano, violin, cello,
viola, bass, French horn, trumpet, trombone, clarinet, saxophone or flute. Each
contestant will be informed on March 20, 2006 as to which of the nine designated
nights they must be prepared to perform at Café Mozart.
Twelve contestants will perform in each of the Preliminary Competition nights. Contestants
will be judged by both a panel of classical music professionals and the dining public
attending Café Mozart on the given night of performance. One winner will be selected
from each of the nine Preliminary Competitions.
The nine preliminary winners will be asked to come back and compete again in the
Final Competition on Wednesday, December 6th. Again, each contestant is required
to perform an instrumental piece from a work by Mozart, not to exceed five-minutes
in length. These nine preliminary winners will be judged by both a panel of classical
music professionals and the dining public attending Café Mozart on the given night
of performance. One final winner will be selected and awarded the grand prize of
a $10,000 Scholarship to be used toward studying music.
Café Mozart welcomes you to join us as dining guests on any of these Competition
Nights. We are offering a $34.95 Prix Fixe three-course dinner including
appetizer, entrée, dessert & coffee with a 6:00pm seating. Please call us at 212-595-9797
