Meet Our Chef ~ Michael King
|
Michael king, a resident of the New York City area for close to 10 years, has been
active in the culinary world for much of his life. Having started as a dishwasher
at local restaurants in and around his native Frederick, Maryland, Michael’s passion
for food and the arts ( and with a degree in Musical Theatre from the Shenandoah
University Conservatory ) have led him to New York‘s famed Upper West Side as the
new executive chef at Café Mozart.
Having grown up in a household with his father who was raised in India, Sunday afternoons
were the days when Michael would watch his father cook and let his imagination run
wild in the kitchen. |
A brief stint in acting as a member of Kennedy Rogers' "the
Gambler" tour took him around the country where he culled ideas from different regional
cuisines that would help shape Café Mozart’s eclectic contemporary menu.
After moving to New York in the mid 90’s, Michael was as sous chef at the famed
Leopard restaurant in Midtown East, and after two years was promoted to Executive
Chef. Having trained under the tutelage of his classically trained mentor, former
executive chef Raymond Tayag, Michael eventually moved to Café Mozart, where he
finds that his daily surprise specials allow him to create new dishes every night
and to explore himself and his food. Our patrons are provided with a variety of
up to date periodicals, including daily newspapers, books and magazines. In addition,
we invite our customers are invited to engage in a friendly game of chess, checkers
or backgammon.
Our evening atmosphere is set amidst a background of classical music, with nightly

featuring some of Manhattan most talented pianists. In addition, the Juilliard School's
finest students can often be found performing at the cafe. Cafe Mozart is heavily
involved with Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and the New York Philharmonics.
